It accumulates, like end of each day belly button fluff. Fibres of life gather and amass outwardly structure less elements into globs of throwaway waste. A moment for contemplative fleeting focus picked out and flicked from the privacy of one’s own cavity, just another unspoken human activity. As in most deep moments of concentration, a life of navel picking is a truly solitary experience.
Yet it’s those very chaotic looking unstructured threading’s that are the background of perpetual unchanging sameness. Filaments that bind and create life into the very structured familiar shapes that bring meaning into our lives, without them we are naked and lost in a world without fabric or form.
Making decisions that are very irreversible, in effect completely unpicking daily globs of familiar filaments and converting them into unfamiliar loads of wayward lint can be a very cathartic and crushing experiential exercise. Of course deep down there, in our fluffy places, we all know that each and every day is a new binding and twisting of life’s stringy bits, silly we are not. But even as the illusion of sameness is perpetually presented to kindly soothe our collective human feelings of horror, our common fear of change, we still recoil from the truth.
The simple truth is that life really is how you bind weave twist and shape the threads it throws your way moment by moment. Many will religiously collect the daily fluff, creating an impressive and mighty structure over a life time of disciplined picking. They will build from their vision, a shape that possesses strength and purposeful surety, bringing them comfort and stability. Many others will discard their invasive lint, choosing to focus and deal with life and its multi layers head on not belly up. And then there are those who realize that there are certain threads elements and structures that are constant and unchanging, universal laws of cause effect consequence. Those who know that if you make decisions that touch such laws, irreversible will most surely be a factor in your life.
How you deal with your daily load of lint really is your own very solitary business. How you unpick and deconstruct the glob before reconstituting and rebuilding your very own life fibres into a shape that reflects who you really are. That’s really the beginning middle and end, three elements which thread the structure of birth life and death.
Contemplating your navel? Well it may just be the best place to start.
