Recent events showed the power of nature in unleashing violent reverberations that ripped, rippled and roared through a constantly unstable planetary surface and the lives and psyches of humans who stand, or in this case, wobble on it.
What was obviously terrifying for those who felt the depleted point by point wave effect of an outward quaking crust, for those at or close to its crunch creak and crack epicenter it would have undoubtedly been horrific, deafening and tormenting at that never ending moment. For so many their ongoing moments both now and long into their future lives they will have no choice but to relive the memories in reverberating moment by moment flashbacks. But it was in those moments as the surface unbelievably shifted in its shocking side to side demented dance that people stood side by side in support of each other. In those moments when the sound effects of violent planetary movement were awful the comfort of strangers voices and loved ones messages were soothing. As humans we really are capable of the most unspeakable horrors and yet when horrors are visited collectively upon us we are so able to hold each other even when the world is creaking cracking and collapsing all around us. If only we could harness its essence, bottle its elixir and administer its medicinal properties to a quenched species craving for collective meaning and calmness in the face of chaos and calamity. The death numbers continue to rise on Lombok and the homeless continue to live in physical fear and emotional torment.
