Aging discomfort and sliding in Sideways

There’s something very sobering about getting older, actually there’s a great many somethings.  Youth is as the saying goes, ‘completely wasted on them’.  Risking it all comes easily to a generation that looks upon risk as a hormonal based natural high.  Any thought of consequence is inconsequential when your biology is bursting forth in every direction with chemicals. All designed to simply encourage mating baiting and grating.  In many cases, such actions and activities are not necessarily isolated too, dependent on, or based upon a pulse actually being present.  These are young guns with never ending ammunition clips, feral out of control beasts, doing exactly what is required for species continuance.  They don’t have continence issues, pre dementia forgetfulness, creeping blindness and inconvenient deafness.  Only at 3am in some chemical fueled frenzy, will the full impact of aging flit through their sodden minds before quickly exiting via their nearest explosive orifice.

If those frenetic years grow into decades of denial, gradually slowing to reluctant acceptance, then those who have survived and can remember their experiences based on yell it out loud, rip it up fast and burn it completely down, are truly the lucky ones.  Not fortunate by design fate or destiny, more getting out at a right time from a wrong space.  And what may come from the journey is a dawning, albeit a very uncomfortable realization, that the elephant in the room is life and the sharks are what is unemotionally and rightfully taken, bite by bite.

If you’re bent to wander and wonder what it’s really all about, getting older is the ultimate biological tug tear and rip.  Experience(s) can offer wisdom; it can also instill fear and rigidity.  There’s reality and banality, fantasy and fantastical.  Then there’s somewhere in-between, in that sweet spot, that peaceful place where it all just comes together and you just know.  You know that no matter what has been, no matter what may come, you just know that it’s the decision that matters.  And what matters most, is that you continue to decide to fully live with the wise old elephant, while making friends with her circling sharks.
